Artist – Alan Bodner
Alan Bodner’s creative process is marked by spontaneity, unpredictability, and often, chaos. His works feature abstract shapes and objects that may seem disparate or even fractious, yet they ultimately come together cohesively. His fine art is prominently displayed in galleries and museums across the United States, including the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. His repertoire spans from pop surrealism prints to intricate multi-tier geometric assemblages.
Bodner’s limited edition giclee prints showcase his adeptness with digital technology. These vibrant compositions are theatrical, portraying a diverse array of original characters, personalities, and monsters in surreal and complex settings. Drawing from cultural influences spanning the past, present, and his own visionary future, Bodner manipulates, distorts, and exaggerates elements for maximum emotional impact, resulting in consistently engaging and approachable pieces.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Bodner was raised in a creatively charged environment, surrounded by a diverse extended family involved in dance, music, toy distribution, and clothing design. This upbringing shaped his timeless personality—a blend of influences ranging from Road Runner and Peter Pan to Ideal’s Mr. Machine. Inspired by the likes of Erte, Miro, and mid-century pop art during his adolescence, Bodner honed his skills at the Art Center College of Design after relocating to Los Angeles.
Bodner’s fine art is an extension of his illustrious 25-year career as an Art Director, which earned him an Emmy Award. He has lent his creative talents to numerous studios and production companies, including the Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., DreamWorks, The Cartoon Network, and Filmation. His early credits include iconic shows like Mighty Mouse, The Fat Albert Show, Heckle & Jeckle, and Pee Wee’s Playhouse, followed by contributions to Looney Tunes theatrical shorts featuring beloved characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester, and Tweety.
Among his notable credits are Emmy-nominated series such as Kim Possible, Phineas & Ferb, The Replacements, and Disney’s Tangled Series. Bodner’s contributions to animated films include works like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, The Iron Giant, Cinderella II, Neighbors from Hell, and the classic Bugs Bunny short Carrotblanca. His remarkable achievements in animation have garnered him five Annie Award nominations, including a win for Warner Bros.’ The Iron Giant, as well as an Emmy for his work on Disney’s Tangled Series.
