Image of the Day: Bugs Bunny

Two of my co-workers and I spent part of the morning pulling artwork for the upcoming Chuck Jones exhibit at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that opens May 14th.  Although we all work with Chuck Jones art everyday, we're oftentimes removed from it (via computer screens, etc.) and today to have had the opportunity to get close to so much visual richness, ingenuity and creativity was completely inspiring!

This drawing of Bugs Bunny by Chuck Jones (graphite and colored pencil on 12 field animation paper) was a preliminary layout for a life-size (6') cut-out sign that was posted at the gate to the Warner Bros. lot in the 1950s.

This is so much fun. To hold the actual sketches and work. What a treat for you all. I wish I were able to attend the exhibit. Will there be a virtual one those of us who are far away can enjoy? I’d be happy to pay admission to the online version and tour.

Thanks for posting all these wonderful drawings.Although I never met Chuck,he played a VERY important part in my life in the 50’s and 60’s (my parents died when I was 6 years old and cartoons (WB and others)were what gave me so much to laugh about as a child. I still (at 59)love cartoons and truly am thankful there were men such as Chuck Jones and all the others who made these masterpieces of entertainment. I wish I could have thanked him personally.
Please keep posting these “golden gems”!

    Hi Susan,
Thank you for the kind words. Chuck Jones Center for Creativity does plan to eventually offer online virtual exhibits at some point in the near future. Stay tuned for more information!
    Best regards, Robert
