Actor Ben Foster Gives Chuck Jones a ‘Shout-out’

Young actor Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 to Yuma, Six Feet Under) was being interviewed at a Santa Fe radio station the other day when he mentioned his love for Chuck Jones and the Chuck Jones Gallery in Santa Fe.  Coincidentally, gallery director Michael Bundy was being interviewed at that same station and overheard Foster's admiration for Chuck Jones.

Ben was kind enough to share with us some of his thoughts about Chuck Jones:

"I'm thrilled to give a shout out to your gallery.  I spent many afternoons wandering the collection a few years ago while I was shooting the film "3:10 to Yuma."  I bought our director, James Mangold, and Russell Crowe, each a signed Chuck Jones cel as a 'wrap' gift.  As an aspiring actor in a small town in Iowa, with no idea of how to 'break into the biz" — I studied two things.

"Imagining my path was going to be one of physical comedy, I watched all of Martin and Lewis tapes from our local video store and then furthered my education by ordering the complete collection and followed suit with the other; anything Chuck Jones.

"I have read and re-read [Chuck Amuck] "life and times of animated cartoonist."  He [Chuck Jones] in so many ways has shaped my approach to work.  A master in the ballet of failure, relentless mischief and the power of the will.

"Although at this time drama has been my primary path, I continue to be a devoted fan and student of his contribution to the world of entertainment.  There will never be another like him.

"I adored Bugs, but related most begrudgingly to Daffy, and on rough days…Wile E.  I am forever indebted to his generosity of spirit and I am grateful that you are continuing his legacy for future generations.

"Thanks for the laughter."

I watch anything with Ben Foster just because he is in it… lately Birds of America and Pandorum, he first made an impact on me in the movie Hostage but it was not until 3.10 to Yuma that he blew me away and i knew he was THE actor of his generation.
He actually stole the show from both Crowe and Bale…
