How to Celebrate a Birthday

Throughout the years we've celebrated birthdays and anniversaries in many different ways.  Oftentimes it was with a work of art created by Chuck Jones, commemorating a character's birthday such as his drawing for the cel art editions "Carrot Cake" or "Pepe's 50th Birthday" or that of his daughter Linda with "Birthday Card" or even his own 85th birthday as seen here in "In Character."

We're gearing up for a very special celebration of Chuck Jones' 97th birthday on September 21st.  Stay tuned by signing up for our newsletter or through the RSS feed.  Just out of curiosity, what is your favorite Chuck Jones character?  Leave a comment here to let us know.

    Gossamer has to be one of my favorites. A monster with sneakers makes him so much more sneaky.

    I love all of Chuck’s characters, but I relate most with Wile E. Coyote (I also believe in setting a goal & redoubling my efforts)

    Daffy. No question. ” … it’s not ‘he doesn’t have to shoot you now, it’s he doesn’t have to shoot ME now’ … BUT I SAY HE DOES HAVE TO SHOOT ME NOW!” I mean, c’mon. How is that not great?

    My faves are the duo of Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote

    I loved the witch whose bobby pins would fly out from under her hat every time she started running or making any quick moves. She always makes me laugh.

    Hi Mona,
    Thanks for your note. The witch was named Witch Hazel and she was voiced by the incomparable June Foray. Chuck Jones is quoted as saying that “Mel Blanc is the male June Foray of voice actors.” She’s known for her amazing range; and she also was the voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Natasha from the cartoon “Rocky and Bullwinkle.”
    Stay tuned for more info about our Chuck Jones birthday celebration beginning on September 21st.
    Best, Robert

    I’m torn between Pepe and Daffy, two characters I feel describe my life fairly well

    Hello everyone;
    My favorite charachter? Wile E. Coyote of course, without any doubt! Chuck Jones worked with many amusing charachters, but Wile E.’s surely the best…why? umh, I guess that his way of act as a fanatic or as a “wise guy” reppresents many of us, it’s a character that actually suffers and we feel really close to him, but he won’t never dream to never give up…and all those elements makes him simply irresistible!
    Ah, and when I begin following his chases with Road Runner it was the first time I feel interested in the world of drawing and cartoons, so it’s really important to me!
    Greetings!

    Chuck always claimed that he didn’t have a favorite, because just as it would be impolitic to say one of your children was your favorite over the others, it would, for him, be a breach of etiquette to do so with the characters he knew so well.
    Thank you all for sharing with us your favorite Chuck Jones character! –RP

    Even tho thru the imagination of Dr. Seuss, he created the character of “The Grinch” his book; it is Chuck Jones animation version of the character for “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)” that is the best character that Chuck Jones has ever created!
