Gossamer is the giant, fur-covered orange monster in sneakers who chases Bugs Bunny through a mad scientist’s castle. He looks terrifying, but he is easily rattled, and Bugs defeats him with a manicure and a well-timed reminder that the audience is watching. Chuck Jones made him one of the funniest examples of a hulking villain undone by a small, calm hero.

The monster debuted as a mad scientist’s henchman in Hair-Raising Hare (1946) and returned in Water, Water Every Hare (1952). He received the name Gossamer, from Marvin the Martian, in Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century (1980).
